A Cumbrian zoo is ‘honoured’ to be involved in celebrating the life of television star and celebrity chef Dave Myers.

In memory of the famous Hairy Biker, fans are travelling to Dave’s hometown ahead of a tribute concert.

Thousands of bikers are due to travel from London to Barrow to celebrate Dave’s life - and a number of stops have been organised along the way.

Lakeland Wildlife Oasis near Milnthorpe has been asked to host the last meeting point, where bikers can join their part in the procession.

People from across the country are expected to gather in Barrow town centre and at the  Barrow Raiders ground for 'Dave Day' on June 8.

The zoo will provide a meeting point for 125cc bikers and any riders who wish to avoid the motorways.

Lakeland Wildlife Oasis will be open from 9am with most bikes meeting at 1pm and ready to leave at 2:30 in time to join onto the back of the main ride out.

The Business Manager for Lakeland Wildlife Oasis Ruth Cooper said: “It's a great honour to be chosen to be part of this as we are realistically a very young bike-night location and it means a lot to be involved in the celebration of Dave's life. Not only this, but it brings a lot of publicity and support into the area.”

Wildlife Oasis Bike Nights began last year as a form of giving back to the community, providing a social event for motorbike enthusiasts. They meet up every Tuesday night between 5pm and 8pm throughout the summer, to enjoy a chat over a brew and a burger

Bike nights have also helped to raise the zoo’s profile, with all profits going back into the charity zoo.

Last year the bikers raised enough money for a defibrillator which is now in place in front of the zoo, and the remaining money went directly into site-building works.
