A business in Barrow has made the decision to close its doors to properly honour D-Day and Dave Day.

On June 8, thousands of people will be coming to Barrow to celebrate the life of Dave Myers, who called the Cumbrian town his home.

Around the same time, Barrow will be coming together to mark the 80th anniversary of the Normandy Landings, with local events starting from June 6.

With attention set to be fully focused on these two events, Dandy's Furniture Store announced on Sunday, June 2 that it will not be trading at the same time.

Jeff Dandy, the store owner, commented: "As a mark of respect and to allow our staff to participate in these events, please be aware Dandy's will be closed on Saturday.

"We will reopen as normal on Sunday, June 9, 11:00am to 4:00pm - apologies for any inconvenience caused."
