A SINGER with family in Barrow said describing his experience on Britain's Got Talent as a whirlwind 'is quite an understatement.'

Harrison Pettman, 23, managed to the semi-finals on the show, singing powerful covers of 'With You' from Ghost the Musical and 'She Used to Be Mine' from Waitress.

Harrison is from Gravesend in Kent but many of his family live in Barrow, including his auntie Pauline.

Before his appearance in the semi-finals, she told The Mail: "He has family in Barrow who are all supporting him."

"The most important thing is not letting myself down, it's everybody who loves me down," he said. "I have the most supportive friends, family and the general public in the UK has been so positive."

In his first audition, Harrison surprised his parents by sitting next to them in the audience, and then appear on stage after telling them he had gone to the toilet.

After performing With You judge Amanda Holden told him that he had performed 'from your heart, very genuinely.'

About his parents, Harrison said: "They have worked so hard their opportunities have been taken away from them when they were younger. I'm their son, they so proud of all the things I've done."

Prior to appearing on Britain's Got Talent, Harrison had various attempts at breaking into the music industry. He works as a security officer at a shopping centre, and as a youth worker.

When he got to his semi-final on Thursday, 30 May, he said: "I was completely numb, I could not feel my arms."

Unfortunately, despite a strong performance and saying that he would give '110 per cent' to winning the show, Harrison did not get through to the finals.

One of the contestants in tonight's show at 7.30pm is Ulverston magician and comedian Jack Rhodes.

Harrison said that he is currently trying to contact agencies to continue his musical career beyond Britain's Got Talent.
