AN EXTRA town council meeting for the public to share their views on the Windermere Gateway project has been announced.

Windermere and Bowness Town Council will hold an additional full council meeting solely to discuss plans to develop the A591 at Orrest Head Farm.

The proposal, submitted by Urban Splash Developments, would involve an extension to the Windermere gateway, the introduction of a new junction off the A591 into the Orrest Head Farm site and an improved junction between A591 and Thwaites Lane.

This would 'unlock access' on the Orrest Head Farm site by providing the infrastructure necessary for the Windermere Gateway project on the land, which will be for mixed tourism and housing.

The town council meeting will be at the Marchesi Centre at 6pm on Wednesday, June 26.

A spokesperson from the council said: "It will be held in the main hall of the Marchesi centre to enable public participation as we anticipate strong public interest. We are allowing approximately 1 hour for discussion and resolution.

"After a recommendation on this item has been agreed the Council meeting will be closed and the normal Planning Subcommittee (PSC) meeting begin at around 7pm."

Councillors and the public can remain to observe the subcommittee meeting. The council's decision will be taken into account by the Lake District National Park Authority, which will make the final decision.
