A THIEF has been sentenced after he went on a spree of stealing food and laundry items from supermarket stores in Barrow.
Peter Penman, of Rawlinson Street in Barrow, pleaded guilty to three counts of theft from a shop on April 30 this year.
Upon entering his guilty plea, the 33-year-old admitted he had stolen £44 worth of food belonging to Holland and Barrett, £12.30 worth of food items belonging to Iceland and a further £20 worth of laundry detergent from Poundland.
As a result of his guilty plea at the first opportunity, magistrates at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on May 29 imposed a 12-month community order with two requirement for the defendant to complete a six month drug rehabilitation activity order, and a four-week electronic curfew.
The court heard this order will prohibit the defendant from leaving his house between the hours of 7:00 pm – 7:00 am every day.
Penman was also ordered to pay £85 in court costs.
No order for compensation was made.
