A cat is believed to have been snared in a trap for the second time this year in Furness.

In January, one-year-old kitten Bruno returned to his home in Barrow with his fur skinned off the tail and a dislocated back leg.

Today (May 30) the RSPCA Furness branch has reported that a cat called Pepper has again got injuries consistent with being caught in a snare.

The pet went missing for 12 days however found his way back home in distress and couldn’t put his back paw down.

Further inspection revealed that he had dislocated his ankle with a further two dislocations on his foot.

All the soft tissue had been torn and not connected.

Pepper had also lost his 25% of his body weight and was dehydrated.

After he was taken to the vets, he underwent two surgeries to put his ankle back together with three screws.

On top of this, there was also a puncture in his skin meaning he is now at risk of gangrene and losing his foot.

A post on the RSPCA Furness Facebook page read: "The vet thinks Pepper was probably caught in trap and his injuries were caused soon after he went missing.

"If anyone knows of people putting out traps, then please report them to the police.

"Pepper is the second cat in a year to be caught in a trap."
