THREE horses died in one day at Cartmel Races.
The three who died on the bank holiday Monday meet were named by campaign group Horse Death Watch as Unexpected Edge, Runremyrun and Getaway Luv, all from Ireland.
Unexpected Edge stumbled on a racecourse path crossing and was injured before being destroyed, according to the group.
The other two horses pulled up with fatal injuries, the group claims.
A spokesperson from Cartmel Racecourse said: "During our Whit Bank Holiday Monday event, three horses were involved in separate incidents throughout the day.
"They were immediately attended to by our expert veterinary professionals.
"Horse and jockey welfare is our primary focus and our heartfelt condolences are with connections."
