FUNDS are being raised to support a teacher travelling to New Zealand to play for one of England's Hockey teams.

Carole Quill, from Windermere, plays for the England Masters Hockey 050 Women's Team.

The 52-year-old, a teaching assistant and PE coordinator at St Martins and Mary’s School in Windermere, is preparing for the 4 Nations competition in Nottingham in June, followed by the World Cup in Auckland, New Zealand in November.

However, the whole trip to New Zealand is self-funded, from travel expenses to flights, accommodation and her sports kit. But her friend of more than 30 years, Adele Jackson, decided to organise a fundraiser to help her get the money needed for her trip.

Adele's children are also taught by Carole at St Martins and Mary's School. She explained that she has an 'impact' on the children at school and goes 'above and beyond' in sports.

She said: "We can help Carole as a thank you for all she does for us. Carole gives her absolute all to our children. From individual support, kindness, fairness, and encouragement overall a source of motivation and inspiration.

"Carole is a positive role model and is committed to what she does. She believes in every child who helps see their worth and potential. Which reflects on their confidence and self-esteem, leading to tremendous success in their personal and professional lives."

Adele has so far raised £1,820 of the £1,500 target.

"Carole was overwhelmed about the fundraiser," she said.

"I did not tell her she saw it on social media. I am speechless with the donations but she deserves it more than anything."
