A number of organisations are working together to host a community garden party and collaborative ‘Big Lunch’.

This ‘huge’ event is designed to showcase everything Barrow has to offer from activities to volunteering.

Westmorland and Furness Council, alongside many more organisations, including Cumbria CVS, Furness For You and Youth Ability Services have teamed up for the event.

The Big Lunch will take place on Saturday June 1 at Walney Community Centre and is supported by the Know Your Neighbourhood fund, who help people experiencing loneliness and isolation.

The garden party will start at 10am and finish at 4pm, providing people with the chance to get to know more about their community and to meet other volunteers in the area.

This fun, free event for all the family will feature a host of activities and entertainment, from a Lego competition to a children’s silent disco.

There will also be kids arts and crafts, badge making, plus giant board games like Jenga and Connect Four, as well as an appearance from Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit.

The Big Lunch is being organised as a ‘small token of appreciation’ for all the hard work done by members of the public to help local organisation to run ‘fantastic services’.

Attendees will be able to enjoy a free buffet, gift bags from Mud and Bloom, Ice cream, and vouchers for Pedalo rides. There will be stalls from businesses across Barrow to browse around, as well as a photo booth and a smoothie bike.

On the day, the gates to the brand new Community Garden will be opened at 11am, the children’s silent disco will be held at 11.15am before the Volunteer Presentation at 11.45am.

The buffet will open at 12pm noon, shortly followed by a performance from Sign Ability Makaton Choir at 12.30pm.

The Ice Cream van will appear at 1pm, with plenty of time to have a look around and try out some activities before Afternoon Tea at 3pm.
