An emergency road closure has been implemented in Dalton and is set to last up to five days.

Westmorland and Furness Highways has said it needs to carry urgent highway repair work at Siskin Avenue.

The closure has taken affect immediately from May 28 with the work anticipated to take four further days.

According to the Westmorland and Furness Council website, the work is part of a 'trial hole investigation' with the local authority prohibiting the passage of vehicles along a section of Siskin Avenue.

A suitable alternative route for vehicles will be available via Tantabank, Merlin Drive, Kestrel Drive and the unrestricted section of Siskin Avenue.

A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.
