A child was airlifted to hospital in Ulverston on Saturday (May 25) following a road traffic collision.

The Great North Air Ambulance (GNAAS) landed in Ulverston not far from the Premier Inn Hotel at North Lonsdale Terrace.

The critical care team was called just after 8:45am to assess the child before airlifting them to hospital.

A spokesperson for Great North Air Ambulance said: "On Saturday our critical care team was activated at 8.47am to reports of a road traffic collision in Ulverston.

"We had a doctor and paramedic on board our aircraft and they arrived on scene at 9.04am.

"Our team worked alongside the North West Ambulance Service to assess and treat a child before airlifting them to hospital.

Bank Holiday weekend was a busy time for the air ambulance service which responded to 20 incidents from Saturday, May 25 to Monday, May 27.

Four incidents took place in Cumbria, one in North Yorkshire with 14 incidents in the North East and one in Northumberland.
