The former Mayor of Barrow has discussed the 'honour' it was to serve the community for the past 12 months.

Councillor Chris Altree had his last day in office on Tuesday, May 21, being replaced by Judith McEwan, a councillor for Ormsgill.

Councillor Altree was the first person to take on the role following the formation of Barrow Town Council last year.

He said: "It has been an absolute honour to be Mayor of the town I love - Barrow has a bright future ahead with lots to look forward to.

"But it's the people that truly make this one of the best places on earth to live and work."

Councillor Altree, a Labour representative for Ormsgill, will see his successor continue carrying the flag for the same political party.

Councillor McEwan has served as his deputy over the past year, meaning the departing Mayor's influence will still linger in the area for at least another term.
