PUPILS at a Barrow primary school swapped their uniforms for something a lot more vibrant.
Newbarns Primary and Nursery School hosted its first sponsored colour run on Friday, May 17 to help raise funds that will go back into the school.
The children completed laps of the school playing fields while being covered from head to toe in colourful powder, with their teachers taking in delight in finally being the ones to make a mess for a change.
Sophie Broadbent, Year Five Teacher and P.E lead, and Year Two Teacher Hannah Fletcher worked together to organise the event.
Sophie said: "The event was a huge success that was inclusive for the whole community.
"We are super happy that all pupils had lots of fun and spent the afternoon smiling while engaging in physical activity."
At the same time as the colour run, pupils in the lower years at Newbarns took part in a 'bubble run' to ensure that no one missed out.
Hannah added: "It was a fantastic event for the whole of the school - we hope to raise a lot of sponsorship."
That sponsorship will go towards 'additional' treats for the children according to headteacher Gary Birkett.
He took the time to thank the staff responsible for making the event a reality, branding it as 'brilliant fun'.
"Our pupils are always happy but to see the joy on their faces at this event was a great end to the week," Mr Birkett commented.
"Especially for our Year Six pupils who had worked so hard on their SATs.
“Our nursery and reception pupils also joined in with a bubble run in the morning, it was magical to see them dashing around the course through the bubbles.”
Parents were also invited to come down to the school to watch the entertainment unfold - although they were warned that it might come with colourful consequences for their clothing.
The school is now taking in the sponsorship money pledged for the event, with the grand total set to be announced in due course.
