PLANS from a Barrow hotel to add bedrooms as well as to ‘reconfigure’ the site due to ‘changes in the market’ have been given the green light.
Westmorland and Furness Council has granted a lawful development certificate to Beluto Properties Ltd so Jefferson’s Hotel on Duke Street can add six more bedrooms and reconfigure the restaurant and bar area.
The hotel currently consists of 27 guest bedrooms over three floors, together with a restaurant and bar on the ground floor, and staff facilities on part of the ground and first floor.
Planning documents said the works proposed involve internal alterations to create six additional guest bedrooms on part of the ground and first floor.
A reconfigured restaurant and bar will be retained on the ground floor, which is of a scale that is in line with the demand experience at the site, plans state.
The planning statement adds: “Due to changes in the market, there is no longer a requirement for a restaurant and bar currently provided at the site, as a result of which the scale of staff facilities required is reduced.
“As such, the applicant intends to undertake internal alternations to provide additional guest rooms.”
The application was granted by Westmorland and Furness Council on May 3.
