The team at Barrow BID are planning to deliver a bigger and better Dino Day in 2024, with new dinosaurs the town has never seen before.
The aim of the event is to help to boost Barrow’s town centre, support local businesses and change the perception of the town.
The day promises to be a spectacular event on Barrow’s expanding event calendar and is sponsored by Orsted, Barrow Town Council and Brilliant Barrow.
Jenny Fazackerley, BID Chair said: “Events like these are important as they attract people into the town and provide an economic boost to local businesses. High street retailers have had it hard over the past few and we need events like this one more than ever to encourage people back to the town, where they will find a warm welcome and a range of businesses eager to serve.
“As well as the economic boost, events like Dino Day are a way of instilling local pride in the town centre and changing the perception of Barrow from the outside. We understand that Barrow’s town centre is transforming, and high-profile events have a huge part to play in that transformation process.”
Dr Bones Dinosaur Hatchery is perfect for smaller children, has a number of sessions throughout the day and is free to sign up to. Visit the doctor on Dalton Road at 10.15am, 11.15am, 12.15pm, 1.15pm or 2.15pm.
Ranger Training, sponsored by Brilliant Barrow, will teach you how to deal with naughty dinosaurs. This free event can be found at the outdoor market and is holding sessions at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.
Dalton Road, sponsored by Barrow Town Council, will be transformed into a dinosaur arena where the mid-size dinosaurs will be hosted throughout the day, making appearances at 11am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm.
Ash Holroyd, BID Volunteer Director said: “Barrow BID worked with Bigfoot Events to bring dinosaurs to Barrow town centre in May 2023, they proved extremely popular, and it was great to see so many families in the town centre and so many children with smiles on their faces. This year we have added new, even bigger dinosaurs that have never been seen in Barrow before. We hope visitors to this year’s event will have a Roarsome time!"
The Main Arena, in front of the Town Hall will host the largest dinosaurs including the ferocious T-Rex. Displays at 10.30am, 12.30pm and 3.30pm are sponsored by Orsted.
Baby Dinosaur Meet and Greets will be held at the Careers Inspiration Hub on Portland Walk at 11.50am and 2.20pm.
Check out the Small Dino Meet at 11.30am, 12.50pm, 1.30pm, or 2.30pm and have a go at Fossil Making, with sessions at 10.30am, 12pm and 1.30pm.
Dino Days newest activity gives children the chance to make their own cretaceous fossils. You can also get up close and personal with several smaller dinosaurs who will be patrolling the market, but be careful, they bite!
A grand finale will be held at 3.30pm in the Main Arena.
