A rabbit has died after around ten to 15 rabbits were dumped near Dalton on Monday (May 13).

The bunnies were spotted by a passerby around 10pm in the Millwood Lane area and reported to Little Beasties Pet shop in Ulverston.

Together, they managed to recover five rabbits with a further one now taken in by a pet owner due to owning a similar rabbit.

One animal had a broken back leg and was booked into Archway Vets in Grange-over-Sands to have it amputated.

Unfortunately, the rabbit has since died as a result of its injury.

Owner of Little Beasties Mandy Elizabeth said: "The rabbits were brought to our attention by a passerby who said that he saw around ten to 15 rabbits.

"We managed to capture six however one poor bunny has now passed away.

"The rabbits all seem to be in good health and well cared for,  other than one poor bunny who sadly had a broken back leg.

"We are seeking any information on who owns, or has dumped these, rabbits."

The pet shop has some CCTV footage of a car in the area with a name given and are seeking as much information as possible before passing over to the authorities.

All information given will then be passed on confidentially.

Mandy added: "We'd like to stress that after a thorough search, there are no more rabbits that are present in that area so there would be no need for people to come and to try and find the rabbits.

"We would also like to appeal to the owners to come forward. If anyone is ever struggling to look after animals, please get in touch with us, rather dump them, as can always help."
