A bird sanctuary in Furness has appealed to dog owners after a pigeon was witnessed being dropped from the jaws of a dog.
A post on the Bardsea Bird Sanctuary Facebook page created yesterday (May 12) states that passers by administered CPR to the bird around 11am
It is now being treated at the rescue and is said to be doing well.
Elisabeth Ashleigh, who runs Bardsea Bird Sanctuary, said: "When your dog has had a bird in its mouth don't just walk off and leave the poor thing to die.
"This is what happened to poor Poppy - a blonde woman with a medium sized black and white dog around 11'ish was seen by the side of Park Vale next to the running track just off Mill Lane, Walney getting her dog to drop this injured bird and walk off without glancing back.
"Thank goodness for decent people. Poppy is being treated for pressure injuries on head, neck and upper torso, but I'm confident she'll make it through... luckily there's nothing broken."
