Mind in Furness are extending their operating hours to offer urgent non-clinical help to people in need.
For over five decades, Mind in Furness has delivered trusted and professional support services to those managing their mental health.
The extended hours will extend into the evenings and weekends, offering a lifeline for individuals requiring urgent non-medical intervention.
The team of fully trained and professional staff are providing evening and weekend appointments, allowing people to discuss crisis management, self-care and receive referrals to other useful agencies.
The aim of the expanded service is to create a safe, supportive space for individuals during crisis periods and to help develop coping strategies, safety and resilience plans.
Among other resources, food bank vouchers and expedited referrals to fuel poverty assistance will be provided.
Those utilising the evening services can also access peer support and participate in a wider programme of services and activities offered through local partner organisations, creating potential long-term benefits to emotional wellbeing.
The new operating hours are from Monday to Friday, 4pm – 10pm with the first appointment starting at 4.30pm and the last at 9.15pm.
On Saturdays, they open from 11am – 5pm, with appointments beginning from 11.30am and the final one at 4.15pm.
Services provided include staff-led peer support groups from 6pm – 8pm.
These mentor-led groups provide a secure and non-judgemental environment for people to connect, share experiences, and offer mutual support.
One-to-one appointments are also available throughout operating hours, offering a personalised approach to guidance and mental health navigation.
A recent attendee said: "You have helped me to realise that I can face up to problems, I just need to care about myself as much as you care about me."
Aside from peer support groups and one-to-one appointments, the staff can connect individuals with other services and resources that may be helpful within their communities.
The extended hours service is designed for those who need immediate help and cannot access daytime services.
It should be noted that self-referrals are welcome, but an appointment must be booked by calling 01229 827094 or emailing schoolstreet@mindinfurness.org.uk.
