A WOMAN was airlifted to the hospital after sustaining several injuries.
Coniston Mountain Rescue Team responded to their 26th incident of the year at 11.20am on Monday after a woman slipped and tumbled down the stone steps on Latterbarrow.
The team said she sustained injuries with the 'most serious' one being to her head.
They dispatched two Land Rovers. She was assessed and a neck brace fitted before being carefully placed on our stretcher.
Due to the possible 'serious' nature of her injuries, the team called for helicopter assistance and Helimed 58 from Great North Air Ambulance at Langwathby which landed near to the Latterbarrow summit.
A spokesperson for Coniston Mountain Rescue Team said: "We carried the casualty up the rock steps to the fell-top, where their crew took over.
"She was then loaded into the helicopter for transport to Furness General Hospital for treatment."
The rescue had 14 volunteer team members who attended for two hours and 28 minutes.
