A MAN has been jailed after magistrates found him guilty of breaching a restraining order.
Lee Taylor, of no fixed abode, was made subject to a restraining order at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on January 25 this year.
However, the 40-year-old breached that order less than one month later in Barrow by texting the victim on February 21 – a provision he was prohibited from doing contrary to section 5(5) and (6) of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.
Magistrates convicted Taylor after trial and they believed the offence was so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified.
As a result, Taylor was jailed on April 23 for 20 weeks as magistrates said the defendant had shown 'a flagrant disregard for court orders’ having been convicted of similar offences in the past.
No order for costs were made.
