THE number of people who identify as English in Barrow has been revealed.
The Office for National Statistics has published its annual population survey data before St George's Day, which is on Tuesday, 23 April.
This data breaks down national identity into a regional and local level, including for the former Barrow-in-Furness district area.
According to this data, in Barrow, slightly more people identified as British (53.1 per cent) than English (52.8 per cent). There was no data listed for people in Barrow who identify as Irish, Scottish or Welsh, because the sample size is zero or too small.
However, 4.1 per cent (2,700 people) put their national identity as 'other' and not one of the four nations making up the United Kingdom.
English identity in Barrow is above the national average, which is 43 per cent of the population. It is below the national average for respondents identifying as British - which is 57 per cent.
