TOUCHING tributes to Hairy Biker Dave Myers have been left in a book of condolence.
After the death of the beloved Barrovian and TV chef, the people of his home town were invited to pay tribute.
A book of condolences has been made available so that people can write a lasting tribute to the popular celebrity.
The book can be found at The Forum where locals have an opportunity to record their messages and memories.
It will be sent to his family.
The first entry was made by the mayor of Barrow Cllr Chris Altree.
He wrote: “Firstly, thank you Dave for being one of Barrow's biggest champions and the wider Furness area. I’m sure many people are going to miss you and we are all poorer for not having you in our lives, be that in person or on TV. I hope the people and the town continue to do you proud. RIP and god bless.”
Gabi Stanford said the Hairy Biker was like an ‘uncle’ to her and mentioned how glad she was to have the opportunity to grow up with him.
“Dave was the nicest and most down to earth person you could ever meet,” she wrote. “I’m going to miss you so much, I love you so much. I will never forget you.”
Cllr Dani Petrova described Dave as the ‘most kind-hearted and caring gentleman’ and expressed her ‘deepest sympathy’ and ‘sincere condolences’ to ‘dearest’ Lili, Kingie, Iza, Sergiu and the rest of the Myers family.
She wrote: “I am so blessed to have had you in my life. I am missing you so much. Rest in peace matey, until we meet again.”
Cllr Fred Chatfield and Elizabeth Chatfield thanked Dave for his ‘wonderful’ programmes and books and for never forgetting his home town.
Others wrote thanking Dave for ‘putting Barrow on the map’, for ‘showing its best parts’ and saying how great his loss is, for family, friends and his home town.
Cllr Kay Hyland thanked the celebrity for being a ‘wonderful ambassador for Barrow’ adding, ‘You make us so proud’, while Cllr John Murphy wrote: “You will be very sadly missed; a great ambassador of our town”.
Graham Beddoes described Dave as an ‘amazing local lad’ who will be sadly missed in barrow and beyond.
Gordon Fisher, who was Dave’s neighbour when he lived on Abbey Road, said his death is a ‘sad loss’ to Barrow, his loving wife Liliana and the whole world.
Cllr Bob Elliot described Dave as a ‘real asset’ to Barrow-in-Furness, who will be ‘sadly missed’ while Cllr Bill McEwan wrote: “So sad to see a wonderful gentleman leave us too early. You brought so much love and joy to so many people on your travels. You will be missed by many, RIP Dave.”
Dozens of Barrovians left messages to Dave, saying he would always be in their thoughts, and how sad they found the news of his passing.
The Hairy Biker was lovingly described as a ‘true Barrovian, who always had time for everyone in a humble way.’
