Many Barrow businesses have been on the move in the last year due to developments in the town.
Changes such as at Barrow Market and the regeneration of The Ginnel have prompted some businesses to find new locations.
While some have relocated to bigger premises, others are new businesses making their debut in the town.
Here are five independent businesses that have opened up on Barrow's shopping street Dalton Road.
MG Carpets
MG Carpets was a popular stall in Barrow market for around 18 months
Due to the relocation of traders however, it decided a new, much bigger premises on the corner of Dalton Road and Duke Street was more suitable.
The business went from a tiny 3m sq floor space to 620 sq ft space.
The bigger location now means MG Carpets can offer a much wider range of styles, cuts and patterns.
The high street unit had been empty for a number of years before MG Carpets moved in.
Got It Covered
Got It Covered Ltd was the last remaining shop in The Ginnel and moved into a new unit at 93 Dalton Road in January following the regeneration scheme.
It had been trading from its previous location for the last 18 years.
Speaking of the move at the time, Alan Elrick, Director of Got It Covered, said that it was a 'really exciting opportunity to be part of the new gateway to Barrow town centre'.
Lazy Days Home Furnishings
Hundreds of people visited the opening of the new Lazy Days Home Furnishings last month
The store quadrupled in size after it moved from Buccleuch Street into the ex-Sports Direct unit.
The major sports retailer was operating at the site for more than a decade before it closed down over a year ago.
The furnishings store now has literally four times more sofas on display with plenty more dining sets, bedroom and lounge furniture.
Build-a-Bathroom
A brand-new bespoke bathroom showroom had its grand opening on Dalton Road this month.
Build-A-Bathroom offers bespoke bathroom designs with virtual reality drawings so customers can see exactly how bathrooms look when finished.
The diverse business also has a renewable energy centre and a trade counter.
Owner Simon Huitson said before its opening: "We could have opened on a trading estate however we chose Barrow as we truly believe that in the next three years, the town will see its day again and become a town centre with thriving businesses."
Jenny Stitches
Jenny Stitches was recently awarded the 'Best Shop in the North of England' in the Stitch Industry Awards
The fabric store closed its doors at its shop at 82 Dalton Road in Barrow and reopened at a bigger premises just next door at numbers 78-80 in July 2023.
The bigger store has allowed the business to provide clients with more space and make new services available.
