The landlords of a well-known hotel and pub near Barrow made a shock announcement this afternoon (February 1) that they will be leaving at the end of February.
Husband and wife Dave and Julie Noonan took over the reins of The Clarke’s Hotel in Rampside in July 2023.
The couple did it to ensure that that their local tavern remained open following the departure of Lakeland Inns which went into liquidation.

Upon taking over, Dave and Julie refurbished the hotel's bedrooms as well as unveiling a brand-new menu.
This afternoon however the couple announced on its Facebook page that they would be leaving at the end of the month.
A post on the hotel's Facebook page read: "It is with great regret that we have to inform everyone that myself and Julie will leave The Clarke's at the end of February.
"With staff shortages and mounting energy bills etc, we have found it really hard to keep up.
"If people have bought vouchers or paid deposits for our business, we're not the type to walk away, please contact us and we will reimburse you.
"We would like to thank all staff and patrons who have endeavoured to keep us going, it has certainly been really appreciated .
"Our kitchen will unfortunately stay closed, but until the end of February, we will run a limited shift with hours stated -Monday / Tuesday closed, Wed/Thu/Fri/Sat/ Sun 12-2 and 5-8
"Once again thank you all."
Customers and previous guests were quick to express their shock and sadness at the announcement.
One woman said: "So sad - our favourite Sunday roast. Thank you so much."
One man said: "That is a shame, it’s a very very hard game to be in, sorry hope it all works out for you both."
Another woman added: "Sorry to hear this but you tried your best, wishing you well for the future whilst another simply said: "Oh I'm sad to see you go."
The Mail reached out to The Clarke's Hotel and pub who said they did not wish to comment.
