Chetwynde School students were thrilled by the visit of award-winning author Ele Fountain.
The celebrated author, best known for her debut novel ‘Boy 87’, spent time with Year 7, 8 and 9 students who study the book as part of their curriculum.
Jill Robinson, Chetwynde School's assistant headteacher, deemed the event extremely beneficial, as Ele shared her personal stories, life in Ethopia's capital Addis Ababa, and her creative journey in writing about refugees.
"Ele spoke about her inspiration and personal experiences that influenced her to write about refugees, the creative process behind putting pen to paper and the power of literature," said Ms Robinson.
"It was a rare chance to meet the mind that has written a book that pupils have actually read, and they clearly enjoyed the opportunity asking some brilliant questions."
In addition to a question and answer session, Ele guided Year 7 students through a creative writing workshop.
Ms Fountain treated the pupils to insider author information, confessing her favourite novel was 'Fake', while 'Boy 87' held a sentimental value as her debut novel.
She also dropped hints about the launch of a new book coming in July.
