A MAN has been sentenced for sexually assaulting a woman by touching when she did not consent.
Matthew Monaghan, of James Street in Barrow, pleaded guilty to the charge at the first opportunity at South Cumbria Magistrates Court on January 15.
Prosecuting the case, Lee Dacre said the assault occurred in Barrow in 2022.
The complainant’s anonymity has been protected for legal reasons.
Magistrates imposed an 18-month community order with requirements to complete 120 days of an alcohol abstinence and monitoring program, as well as a curfew preventing him from leaving his home address for 90 days between the hours of 7pm and 7am.
The 50-year-old was also ordered to pay £250 compensation as well as paying £85 in costs and an £114 surcharge.
