FIREFIGHTERS were called to tackle a fire in a Barrow flat this morning (Wednesday).
Police received a call from Cumbria Fire and Rescue at 5:51am.
A fire at a residential property on Greengate Street was reported.
Cumbria Fire Service said four engines from Barrow, Ulverston and Millom stations, as well as the joint incident command unit from Walney, attended.
Firefighters used four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and a positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the fire.
The Fire department said residents living in neighbouring properties were evacuated as a precaution.
The fire was confined to one flat, which was unoccupied at the time, and the fire did not spread to other properties.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are currently ongoing but Cumbria Fire said there are no suspicious circumstances.
As a precaution, the road was closed at the top of Greengate Street.
The road reopened around 7:55am.
