WESTMORLAND and Furness Council have announced that there will be temporary traffic lights and overnight closures on the A592 Kirkstone Pass as safety improvement work is carried out.
The work will restart on January 3 and the road will be under day-time traffic light control until March 2024.
Vehicles and cyclists will be able to pass through, but the Council have warned there could be additional delays.
Overnight closures will also be in place for approximately two and a half weeks from January 3 until January 19, Monday to Friday from 09:00 am – 07:00 am. Road users are not permitted to access the site during this time.
The latest closure comes after the Council was granted £7.4 million from the Department for Transport to upgrade and improve the safety of the A592 from Windermere to the A66 near Rheged.
Posting the news of the road closure on Facebook, Westmorland and Furness Council said: “We would like to thank local businesses, residents and visitors for their understanding, ongoing support and patience during our programme to improve the safety of Kirkstone Pass.
“Your support has been instrumental in delivering this project.”
