The Neighbourhood Police Team (NPT) in Barrow has been out in force to target potential Christmas drink and drug drivers recently in a notorious speeding hotspot.

The NPT police officers uncovered more speeding drivers during their work as part of the Christmas Drink/Drug Drive campaign.

Road Safety Priority was highlighted in the recent Police and Communities Together (PACT) survey for the local area which deals with the most pressing concerns from the local community.

Ironworks Road is a 30mph zone however has been a notorious hotspot for speeding drivers which has concerned local for quite some time.

A Facebook post created by Barrow police revealed that: "Education has been provided to drivers on Ironworks Rd with speeds ranging from 35mph to 47mph."

Cumbria Police was imploring residents to plan ahead earlier in the month so they didn't find themselves drink driving this Christmas and New Year.

Law enforcement officials promised to intensify their efforts to tackle unfit motorists impaired by alcohol or drugs.

The pledge was part of the wider Constabulary Christmas and New Year road safety campaign.

In last year’s festive crackdown between December 1 and January 1, officers carried out 654 breath tests, leading to 154 arrests.
