A charity based in Barrow that focuses on helping women in the community has celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Volunteers at Women's Community Matters came together to host a special event to commemorate the landmark birthday.

It proved to be a huge success, with other 100 people visiting to join staff, trustees, volunteers and beneficiaries in the celebrations.

Rebecca Robson, Senior Officer of the charity, said: "We were supported by Rachel Ashton from Theatre Factory to provide a narrated timeline with props taking the audience through the last 10 years.

"A visual artist was also on hand to draw the last 10 years and a display will be up in the Centre from January."

The charity is based in the Nan Tait Centre on Abbey Road and strives to make a positive difference to the lives of women, young girls aged 13 and above and young boys aged 13-17 in the Barrow area.

"Guests were invited to tour the centre and enjoyed a buffet lunch including a wide selection of cakes baked by my mum," Rebecca added.

After a decade of working in the community, the positive impact created by the charity has been most felt by the people they have supported over the years.

One patron said: "[Women's Community Matters] will always have a big place in my heart - can't believe it's been 10 years already."

Another supported added: "[They] have been doing a fantastic job for the women in Barrow and hopefully [they will] continue for many years to come."

As expected, following the birthday party, the festive period has been a busy time for the charity.

The team took part in the Furness For You festive get together, allowing them to chat with partners and clients.

Throughout the end of November and finishing in the middle of December, the charity also got involved in 16 Days of Activism in the fight against gender based violence.

And, to help the area get into the Christmas spirit, volunteers have been spearheading the collection of gifts to donate across Barrow.
