AN ELDERLY social home resident slipped on uneven paving in the dark, with the provider Accent scrambling to fix problems at the accommodation.
Tracey Croasdell from Fenman Close previously raised the issue of broken lights in the outdoor communal space leaving residents in pitch darkness when they exit their homes with this publication.
To this, Accent promised that the broken lights would be fixed by Monday, November 27.
However, Ms Croasdell provided an update on the situation at Fenman Close. She said: "My neighbour's daughter has knocked to ask if I'd keep an eye on him, he's fallen on the broken slates on the front and fell on the floor.
"Obviously it's been cold, his daughter doesn't know if he tripped in the dark or slipped but that's not the point - it's pitch black. We are angry with their lies, it's not just September it first got reported in 2021 and it's been an on-and-off issue.
"We are thinking of seeing if we residents can take Accent to court."
Accent replied: "Accent can confirm that this issue is being resolved and attended to as quickly as possible.
"Our Housing Partner has visited residents twice this week, and kept them updated by phone, to reassure them that matters are in hand. We are working hard to get the three lights fully fixed. The contractor is returning on Tuesday, December 5 to upgrade the communal lighting for the block, and this work will take two days.
"We are very sorry to hear a customer has slipped on uneven paving. This paving has now been repaired. Customer safety continues to be our top priority."
Previously Ms Croasdell said that the residents had been 'ignored' and 'left to fall' by the provider, and that it was risky for residents to leave their homes to go to the corner shop.
Accent said that they had been made aware of necessary repairs at the end of September this year.
"Accent was made aware of the necessary repairs at the end of September 2023. Our contractors did carry out repairs to the lights at this time however the lights failed again mid-October and there were further works raised. The contractor has confirmed that all necessary repairs will be carried out and completed by 27 November 2023," the Accent spokesperson said.
