Calling all vintage vehicle enthusiasts: the Lakeland Motor Museum wants to make their Boxing Day event the largest in its history.

In an open invitation, the museum is seeking owners of classic and vintage vehicles, promising a day filled with nostalgia and a bit of horsepower.

Chris Lowe, Curator at the Lakeland Motor Museum, said: “The Boxing Day Classic Drive and Ride In Day has become a popular festive tradition and gives people the chance to showcase their pride and joys!

“Whether you own a classic car or truck or a timeless motorcycle – everyone is welcome. It’s also a great chance to get out of the house and enjoy some fresh air over the holidays!”

On December 26, from 10am to 1pm, the event is set to echo past years that have attracted over 150 vehicles.

Participants have the opportunity to take home the 'Best of Boxing Day' Trophy, a classic piece crafted from a vintage engine formerly part of the museum’s collection.

It's an accolade cherished by previous winners, like 2022 and 2021 winners David Birch and Kieran Hall, who took the trophy home with their restored 1978 Leyland Reiver truck and classic 1969 Land Rover fire engine, respectively.

The event's appeal extends beyond classic and vintage motor cars, with the invitation extended to owners of more recent hot hatches, superminis and high-performance sports cars as well.

It's a day for motoring reunions, scenic Lake District drives and the sharing of restoration tips, stories and vehicular love among enthusiasts.

“Every year we are surprised by the wide range of wonderful vehicles that arrive at the museum and we want this year’s meeting to be the biggest ever,” explains Mr Lowe.

“You don't have to own a classic vehicle to attend, just simply come along and join in the fun. You can view the private cars on display, take a visit to the museum or grab some refreshments at the riverside Cafe Ambio. Everyone is welcome.”

The event requires no booking and offers ample free parking for owners showcasing their vehicles.

Drivers and their passengers will also receive vouchers for discounted admission to the museum, making it an unmissable festive outing for all motor enthusiasts.
