A MOTORIST from Ulverston has been banned from driving for 18 months after he pleaded guilty to two offences of drug driving within the space of one month.

Samuel Huck, of Lime Tree Road, admitted to driving his Volkswagen Up on Lumley Street in Barrow on May 9 this year while five times above the legal Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol drug limit.

South Cumbria Magistrates Court heard that he gave a reading of 10 ug/L when the legal driving limit is 2 ug/L.

The 26-year-old then committed the same offence on June 11 this year while driving the same car on the A591 near to Prizet, Kendal.

On this occasion, he was found to have been driving with 8 ug/L of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol in his system.

Magistrates also imposed a 12-month community order with a punitive element of 60 hours unpaid work to be completed within the year.

He was also ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a £114 surcharge in full within 28 days.
