A MOTORIST was caught drink driving on two separate occasions in the space of three months.
Robert Selby, of Ship Street in Barrow, was disqualified from driving for a period of three years after he pleaded guilty to two counts of driving whilst above the legal alcohol limit, and for failing to stop after a road traffic accident.
South Cumbria Magistrates Court heard Selby was driving his Vauxhall Astra on Piel Street on Roa Island on August 10 this year when he failed to stop after causing damage to a Mercedes Vito van.
He then was found to have been drink driving after he gave a reading of 96 microgrammes when police conducted a roadside breath analysis test. The legal limit is 35.
Nearly three months later, the 53-year-old was caught drink driving once again on November 4 while driving the same Vauxhall Astra on Cornwallis Street in Barrow.
On this occasion, the court heard Selby had consumed 88 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
As punishment, magistrates also imposed a 12-month community order with requirements to complete a six-month alcohol treatment programme, 20 RAR days, 200 hours unpaid work and an extended driving test after his disqualification has elapsed.
He was also ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a surcharge of £114 in full within 28 days.
