FORTY Winks 4 Furness is seeking more volunteers to join the sponsored sleep-out event at Barrow AFC'S SO Legal Stadium on December 9.

Organised by town councillor Paul Griffiths and a team of volunteers, the event aims to raise awareness and funds in aid of the Furness Homeless Support Group charity, which helps people from the Furness area who may find themselves sleeping rough.

Councillor Griffiths explained that there are many reasons people find themselves homeless or rough sleeping, through no fault of their own. It could be a loss of a job, the death of a partner, the breakdown of a relationship, or many other reasons, that mean they can no longer afford to keep a roof over their head.

Furness Homeless Support Group has been providing support for Furness families and individuals since 1989 and often all of its 19 temporary accommodation sites are full.

Forty Winks 4 Furness currently has around 60 participants sleeping out including Furness MP Simon Fell and three local mayors.

Councillor Griffiths said: "Currently we have raised over £2,000 and with a month to go and more people on board, we hope this inaugural event will help boost the amount raised and give the charity a timely boost this Christmas."

To sign up to the event or to donate, search online Forty Winks 4 Furness before the registration closing date of November 30.
