AN AMATEUR Boxing Club in Barrow has teamed up with police and secondary schools to offer help to children who have exhibited anti-social behaviour symptoms.
For many years, the Brook Street Club has been proactive in helping men, women and children improve their health and fitness through the power of boxing.
The Boxability project is a prime example of this which has seen club coaches team up with the YouthAbility youth service crew to help young people with learning and/or physical difficulties.
This project has helped boost the young people’s mental and physical health and well-being, and the Boxability team picked up a special award for their efforts at the recent Barrow and District Sports Awards.
Now, Barrow ABC head coach Jeff Moses and his team have turned their attention to children who have been involved in anti-social behaviour.
Jeff said: "Barrow ABC has worked with kids and adults from all backgrounds, to help build confidence and guidance through the disciplined sport of boxing.
"We got in touch with schools to see if there were certain kids that might benefit from gym sessions, talks and guidance with me, community police and school staff to help them avoid getting involved in anti-social behaviour in school but mainly outside school.
"The feedback has been really positive and we are hoping to offer a free six-week programme for senior schools in the Furness area and then take throughout Cumbria, via registered England ABC clubs."
