AN INDEPENDENT furniture store in Barrow is set to quadruple in size as it has just secured the former unit of Sports Direct.
Lazy Days Home Furnishings on Buccleuch Street is set to move to the heart of the town centre with work beginning on November 15.
Sports Direct were trading at the site for more than a decade before it closed down at the beginning of this year.
The new premises means the furniture company will be able to expand its display ranges with new sofas, dining sets, bedroom, lounge furniture and more.
The business has been trading a few years, however was recently taken over by Rebecca Hill, 27, who had worked in retail for around seven years.
Rebecca said: "I felt it was time to work for myself. I heard this business was available but felt it was in the wrong place and needed to move, so I scouted around and found this unit that I feel is better suited for the needs of the business.
"I've lived in Barrow most of my life, I love our town centre and can't wait to be open and trading early in the new year.
"I believe the future of Barrow's town centre is dependent on independent traders now a lot of large chain stores have left us. I think this will be the largest new store opening in quite some time.
"Dalton Road is where we need to be, right in the heart of the town centre. The unit had been left in good condition by its previous occupants which makes it a lot easier for us."
The current store at 128 Buccleuch Street will be having a closing down sale starting on Monday, November 6 at 10am.
