AN HOSPICE expressed its gratitude after receiving three donations from the local community.

On Thursday, October 19, St. Mary's Hospice in Ulverston announced they received more than £5000 from individuals and businesses.

The hospice was donated £1,000 from Shepley Engineers and Sellafield Ltd for reaching their Health and Safety Executive targets for the last quarter. Graham Windle of Shepley Engineers nominated the hospice for the donation.

They received £961 from Jonny Mutton and Paul Tindale, who organised an annual Soul Night fundraiser in memory of Shirley Chester at Furness Rugby Club.

In addition, the hospice got £3,341 from Hut-Fest, which took place on August 19. The event raised £10,000, split between St Mary's, Rosemere Cancer Foundation and the British Heart Foundation.

Annabelle Holloway, Corporate Partnerships Manager of St Mary's Hospice, said: “We are incredibly grateful to our local community for supporting us yet again by raising and donating such a fantastic amount.

"We only get one-fifth of our funding from the NHS, meaning that the care of 8 out of every 10 of our patients is funded by local individuals, community events and local compassionate companies.

"We are here for our community and because of our community. Thank you so much!"
