PLANS have been lodged to upgrade a petrol station including providing hot takeaway food.

The Motor Fuel Group has applied to the Lake District National Park Authority for planning permission to construct an extension to Greystones Filling Station near Witherslack off the A590 which will provide ‘food-to-go’.

The planning statement says: “It is considered that the application is of significant merit as it upgrades the existing sales building on site providing a ‘food-to-go’ offer and provides an improved and ‘refreshed’ site for the benefit of existing customers.

“Overall, the proposal will help to bring the service area up to modern standards to meet the needs of the operator and motorists.”

Proposals also include the installation of a new bin store as well as other improvements to the roadside infrastructure.

The planning statement lays out the economic benefits of the improvements to the site.

It says: “The existing petrol filling station provides a valuable source of jobs. The enhancement of the site will ensure these opportunities are retained and that further job opportunities are created.

“Many of these jobs be suitable for local residents, particularly residents who wish to be flexible in the hours they work.”

A previous planning application to build an extension to the building was accepted in 2020 however the plans were never implemented.

The proposed development will be located within the existing parking bays; however, the bays will be re-provided in front of the new extension. Plans include the merging of two of the bays to create a disabled parking bay which will result in the loss of one customer parking space.

The application was submitted on October 11 and is currently being considered by the Lake District National Park Authority.
