A DRUMMING group has shared its excitement after being awarded funding for a new project.
Boom Dang, an organisation that provides creative music activities, has been given cash from the Arts Council for its Drumming Up Barrow project.
The amount of funding from Arts Council England is £29,120 which means they can deliver their weekly workshops and community outreach sessions for a year with a team of specifically trained freelance musicians.
The year-long project will also include a celebration gig planned for 2024.
Boom Dang is a Barrow-based innovative music organisation with an international reputation for delivering professional training for musicians, groundbreaking work in partnership with Cumbria Children’s Services, and music sessions in a variety of settings as well as being a world-class side-ways drumming band.
The group has been based in Barrow for over 20 years and their dedication to continue to raise funding for the community reflects their 'commitment to the area' and their 'love for Barrow.'
Project coordinator of Boom Dan Ann Grant said: "Thank you to all our partners for supporting us with this application, including BarrowFull, Theatre Factory, Furness Multi-Cultural Community Forum & Youth Club, YouthAbility Youth Services, Drop Zone, Women's Community Matters and More Music.
"Our weekly Ting Tang and All Stars sessions have already begun and we are super excited to begin our outreach work. Thank you to all our supporters for helping us make this happen.
"We are really excited to create a drumming band that Barrow people feel belongs to them and are really proud of. People can now get really involved in it and come along to sessions and take part."
Ms Grant said that joining Boom Dang provides 'many benefits' apart from the 'dance and music.'
She said: "There are so many benefits such as health benefits and a chance to socialise and meet people. It is really good for your mental wellbeing.
"We want to make sure that everybody can come along and enjoy. We are in a fully accessible building with a lift and there are enough people to help anyone who has got particular needs so it is great."
