Rescuers are still searching for a missing dog who escaped his foster home nine days ago.
One-year-old Oscar is a Golden retriever mix who was rescued from Romania and brought to England on September 9 before he was taken in and cared for by a foster family in Furness.
But on September 20 Oscar escaped his foster home in Kirkby-in-Furness by opening a window.
Over the past nine ‘long’ days his foster family and many other animal lovers have been trying to find Oscar and get him home safely.
He has been tracked out to Dunnerholme, spotted in Soutergate and seen around the Duddon Estuary. Oscar was also seen near Foxfield and at one point was moving over Kirkby Moor towards Ulverston.
After trying to lay a scent trail with old towels and clothes to lead him home, Oscar’s foster mum is getting help from Kenzie's K9s- Animal search and rescue team.
They have set up a humane trap with live cameras watching and waiting for Oscar to take the bait, which is loaded with fresh kidneys, tripe and sausage.
Mackenzie Leder, founder of Kenzie’s K9s, said Oscar was a scared rescue dog who has had very little human contact.
“He’s now running in complete survival mode and cannot be caught by hand,” she said. “Please don’t approach. He’s running scared.”
She said nine days alone will have taken a toll on Oscar and he is likely to be cold, wet, tired and half-starved.
She stressed that if someone sees Oscar, you should ignore him.
Mackenzie said so much as eye contact could be perceived as a threat which could send him running into more danger.
If you see Oscar, contact his foster mum on 07738623712 or Mackenzie on 07874971871.
