Brave staff and supporters from St Mary's Hospice have taken on another crazy challenge to raise money for the charity.

A number of fearless staff and supporters took on the daring Born Survivor fundraising challenge.

This thrilling event saw participants face a series of 18 demanding obstacles across a gruelling 5k or 10k course.

They conquered fiery jumps, heart-pounding 74 mph mud slides and treacherous mud pits.

Helen Carlson, head of income generation at St Mary’s Hospice: “I was bowled over by the positivity, endurance and the camaraderie shown by all those taking part. One of the hardest aspects of the challenge was the cold but it was overcome with tenacity and a lot of team effort.  A huge thank you to everyone who took part for St Mary’s.  It’s certainly one to join in 2024!”

Practice educator/ infection prevention and control lead Nikki said: “It was a fantastic day made all the better doing it with my amazing work colleagues. We all worked together to help each other over the obstacles and had such a giggle. I’m looking forward to the next one!”

Tracy, a health care assistant, said: “I had one of the best and most challenging days with these! We started as a team, worked as a team and finished as a team. Makes us proud to work at St Mary’s Hospice. Bring on next year!”

Just over a fifth of hospice costs are funded by the government, which means the hospice relies on its supporters including individuals and businesses to raise vital funds.

Events and challenges like Born Survivor enable the hospice team continue to make a difference to patients and their loved ones across the community.
