A PHOTOGRAPHER who donated his image of Little Langdale to an auction to raise money for Chris Lewis said he was 'saddened' by the news of his death.
45 multi-award-winning landscape photographers from all over the United Kingdom donated their images to a fundraising auction.
It was part of efforts to help support Mr Lewis, who lived near Hawkshead, with his treatment after sustaining life-changing injuries from a fall while rescuing campers who had broken lockdown rules from Red Screes in February 2021.
The auction raised around £5,000 and contributed towards a fundraiser that eventually reached £1 million in support of Mr Lewis.
Mark Littlejohn said that when he heard news of Mr Lewis's death: "I was saddened. You have got a man who could have been sleeping in his bed with his family and instead he was helping out two people who should have known better.
Mr Littlejohn said he was 'delighted' that one of his images went to the auction. Landscape photographers in the Lakes often access areas that are not normal beauty spots, and Mr Littlejohn says that the mountain rescue teams are important to people in his profession.
Mr Lewis died on September 4 at Furness General Hospital in Barrow after contracting pneumonia.
