Windermere Golf Club proved to be well above par after it hosted an event to help raise money for St Mary’s Hospice.
Windermere Golf Day successfully raised around £15,000 through competition entry fees, two raffles, a silent auction, a ‘Beat the Pro’ competition and general donations.
St Mary’s gave a special shout-out to Grange-Over-Sands Golf Club for lending their pro Kyle Marklew for the ‘Beat the Pro’ competition which raised more than £700 alone.
The charity event was organised by Jill Santamera from Community Spirit, who has worked with St Mary’s for a number of years and has previously held similar fundraising days for other local charities. Jill is a golfer herself so she knows how to organise the perfect golfing day.
The staff at Windermere Golf Club made sure all 124 golfers were very well fed and Simon from The BBD Speakeasy made sure they were well hydrated with an array of cocktails and Jager Bombs at the halfway tent.
St Mary’s said they would not have been able to raise so much money 'if it weren’t for generous sponsorship' from Lloyds Motor Group, Function 18, Charnley’s Home and Garden Centre, Hawkshead Relish, Higginsons Butchers, McClures, Robinsons Brewery and Lakes Ice Cream.
The charity also thanked the following businesses for donating raffle prizes: Shed One Gin in Ulverston, The Gilpin Hotel, Helens Chocolates, Old England Hotel and Spa, Windermere Aquatic and Farrers Tea and Coffee.
Area fundraising manager Annabelle Holloway, who was there on the day, said: “We are delighted that this year’s Windermere Golf Day, organised by the fabulous Jill Santamera, has raised a fabulous £15,000 for St Mary’s Hospice. We are extremely grateful to Jill and her team of super volunteers for organising and executing a great day. A huge thank you to everyone who attended, donated and to all of the local businesses who sponsored and supported the event."
