The doors to the Lake District's 'most iconic building' are set to open to the public free of charge.
As part of Heritage Open Days in the UK, visitors to Ambleside will have the chance to go to the Armitt museum and Bridge House.
Throughout the day on September 14, The Armitt will run free walk and talks of the museum and Bridge House where visitors can peek inside and learn more about the history of the local institution.
Faye Morrissey, manager and curator at The Armitt, said: “What people might not know is the history to this fascinating building and how it links with collections at The Armitt.
"So, we will be here for visitors to join us on this exploration, guided by members of our team who, quite literally, have the keys to unlocking this information."
The Armitt is a combination of museum, gallery, and library devoted to preserving and sharing the cultural heritage of the Lake District, situated in one of the most picturesque villages in the Lakes, Ambleside.
Mrs Morrissey added: "We hope you will come along to learn more about the stories of Ambleside and discover our exhibitions too."
Such exhibitions include collections of objects, artworks, and books, such as Beatrix Potter’s original fungi watercolours, a collection of Kurt Schwitters artwork, and archaeological remains from the Ambleside Roman Fort.
The Heritage Open Day theme for 2023 is “Creativity Unwrapped” which celebrates thousands of years of creativity in England.
Liam Montgomery, Heritage Open Days Marketing & Projects Manager, said: “It is a colossal community effort; thousands of organisations, community groups and individual volunteers come out in force to share their enthusiasm, passion and love for the places and spaces they introduce visitors to every year.
"We’re delighted to see such a variety of events in the Lake District this year and know that local people are in for a treat.”
The museum will be open from 10am-5pm, and walks and talks of The Armitt and Bridge House will be at 11am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm.
You can pre-book by phone on 015394 31212 or email events@armitt.com
