A CHARITY that provides support for older people is set to move into a new premises.

Age UK Barrow and District will be closed from Wednesday September 6 while they are moving into their new offices.

The charity will reopen from September 12 and will be located on the second floor of College House, Duke Street, in Barrow.

The premises of the charity have been located in Lakeland House, Abbey Road for more than 25 years.

Head of Age UK Barrow and District Vickie Martin said she was 'very excited' to continue the work of the charity 'somewhere new.'

She said: "We originally owned Lakeland House and we sold it to Barrow Borough Council in 2021 and we reduced in size so we occupied the smaller part of the building.

"Our offices were based on a smaller part of the building. Over the past few years we have grown and we have got more projects going on and we have gained more staff so we needed bigger premises in order to grow and expand."

With the new space, Vickie says they will be able to bring activities back in-house as well as still offering them from around the community.

Age UK will be sharing that building with other charity organisations and companies.

Vicky said: "There is also a community hub so we are hoping to be able to share the space with them to offer group activities from that location."

"We have been in Lakeland House for a very long time. There are a lot of memories attached to this building. We are very excited to be moving somewhere new.

"It will be a fresh start for everybody at Age UK Barrow and District. The staff are really looking forward to being in a new building. We will be sad to leave the building but really excited to start somewhere new."
