A CAKE business with rave reviews that has operated out of a mobile structure on a farm has applied for planning permission to create a permanent shed.

Gillian Fox, the owner of The Crosby Cake Cupboard which is on Crosbythwaite Farm between Ulpha and Eskdale, also wants to expand the car park. The current cake shed is used as a stop-off for drivers and bikers travelling through the Lake District.

Crosbythwaite Farm submitted a proposal to Lake District National Park Authority on August 2.

The cake cupboard is currently operated from a shed with wheels. She said: "There is a small shed there and it's a mobile one, we want to alter the garden and so on. There will be more parking in the area and a larger seating area as well. Last winter I got a grant through the Farming in Protected Landscapes Scheme."

One of the Google reviews praised the cake shop for its 'delicious Cumberland sausage and egg sandwiches, latte, ginger cake and carrot cake.' It also said that the site offered great views of the Duddon Valley for those stopping to eat and drink. The current business will be selling their cakes at this weekend's Millom and Broughton Show.

According to the application document, the shed will be put in an old sheep dip and the site will be at the entrance to the farm. Picnic tables will extend to the bank of Crosby Gill. There will be more woodland planting to cover the new wall, cake shed, and waste and recycling storage.

In September 2022, Crosbythwaite Farm put in a successful application to convert a field barn into a bunk barn that can be used for short stay, communal and holiday accommodation.
