A BRIDE was surprised by not one – but two – messages from a Harry Potter actress on her wedding day.

Unbeknown to the groom, his best man Tom Ducie had also arranged a special video message from Bonnie Wright, who played Ginny Weasley in the film franchise, to be played to Tom Murphy and Heather Boyles at their Lake District wedding.

Heather had received a similar message organised by the groom that morning while she was getting ready.

The couple, who live in Kendal, tied the knot at the Beech Hill Hotel and Spa near Windermere on July 23 in front of 73 guests.

Heather, a senior HR officer for B4RN, and Tom, head of digital for Newsquest Cumbria, met online in 2016 and bonded over their love of Harry Potter.

Heather, 31, said: “When Tom’s sister played the video while we were getting ready I couldn’t believe it. We both love Harry Potter and to have her wish us good luck on our wedding day was amazing and surreal.

“Then when the best man played his video at the end of his speech we couldn’t believe it.”

It did not stop raining all day but it did not dampen the spirits of the happy couple.

Heather said: “We had been looking at the weather forecast for weeks and it looked like we might get some dry spells but it chucked it down until around 8pm so we couldn’t get many pictures outside at the hotel. Our amazing photographer took us to Millerground and armed with an umbrella, he took some stunning pictures of us on the jetties which are very atmospheric.

“Unfortunately the rain meant we couldn’t put a mini crazy golf course that we hired outside but the hotel was very accommodating and managed to get most holes inside which the guests loved.”

Tom, 32, who grew up in Barrow before moving to Kendal to work at The Westmorland Gazette, proposed at the Belsfield Hotel in Bowness in 2021.

Heather said it was a ‘complete shock’ when he got down on one knee.

The couple are going on a honeymoon to Barbados in October.
