Animal lovers are encouraged to come and say their goodbyes to the Arctic wolf pack at Cumbria's Safari Zoo.

The wolf pack will be leaving for a new home in the UK with the whereabouts not yet announced.

Zoo keepers wanted to keep the move from the enclosure at Lindal-in-Furness as a surprise for the new keepers to make their announcement soon. Furness people are urged to come and say goodbye to the pack one last time before August 20.

Arctic wolves are smaller than grey wolves and have smaller ears, shorter muzzles and shorted legs to reduce heat loss through exposure to the bitterly cold air.  They live in packs of around seven to ten.

Speaking on its Facebook, a spokesperson for Safari Zoo said: "We have made no secret that the wolf enclosure is one of the historical enclosures which we have been most unhappy with since taking over in 2017, however, homing an already established pack of wolves to enable works to take place has proven difficult.

"Luckily, the offer of a home came from a zoo which was looking to add a new and exciting development, and our lovely pack fit the bill paw-fectly. This move will enable some much needed recovery of their area."

The Mail: Wolf adopters are also urged to come and have a last visit with the zoo

The zoo is also taking the opportunity to invite all wolf adopters to visit their wolves prior to their departure.

Zoo staff contacted adopters offering them the chance to get in touch with her at members@cumbriazoo.co.uk to arrange a visit.

A spokesperson added: "We know the wolves will be missed by visitors and by staff alike, but we know they will be ever so happy in their new home."
