A FUNDRAISING walk which sees hundreds of participants coming together to remember their loved ones is returning next month.

St Mary's Walk to Remember returns on September 8 and is shaping up to be the biggest one yet.

The 10-mile walk, which takes place every year, provides an opportunity to celebrate the lives of loved ones lost, all while raising money for the local charity.

The event starts from Ulverston Leisure Centre and goes up through Croftlands before joining the A590 at Pennington roundabout.

Walkers then drop down into Dalton and walk on into Barrow along Abbey Road, ending up at Furness Academy.

The route spans 10 miles in total and refreshments and toilets are provided along the route.

St Mary's Hospice Head of Events Mel Dixon said over 350 people had already registered.

She said: "Walk to Remember is a great chance for the community to come together and have fun. We always have hundreds of participants, and it's a great occasion filled with music and laughter.

"We do badge the walk as an in-memory of event, which means we invited people to join us who have suffered the loss of a loved one, but we want the event to be a celebration of the lives of those we are remembering so it isn't sad or sombre, it's a night filled with joy."

Mel added: "Every year, people message and say they'd love to do it but they think it's only for women. I think because we have people walking in pink t-shirts.

"But it is 100 per cent open to men as well. The pink t-shirts are optional  but there is no reason they can't join in."

The deadline to order a personal t-shirt size is this Wednesday.

The event is sponsored by leading offshore wind farm developer Ørsted.

Registrations open at 6pm and the walk starts at 8pm.

The registration fee is £10 for adults and £5 for children.

Minimum sponsorship of £30.
